Ways to Make Money

6 Months of Tiers Insights

What we learned from community feedback and Model interviews.

By Pornhub | November 07, 2024 | 7 minutes

Over the last 8 months, we’ve been gathering feedback from our community and compiling ideas to improve the Tiers program. We’ve taken notes from social media posts and sat down with over 20 Models who are at various stages of their careers to learn about their experience on Pornhub. While Tiers has been beneficial for active Models, some Models have expressed obstacles and suggested ideas to improve our monetization program.

With all the feedback we have received from our community, we recognize that there’s still some confusion about how it all works, so we’re here to address common questions and provide data to clarify some of those points.

How Does Tiers Work?

Tiers is designed to incentivize Models who actively upload new videos to the platform. Tiers are based on rank and the number of qualifying videos uploaded within a 3-month period. The amount of time spent in a particular rank during a calendar quarter will determine which Tier you’ve earned for the next quarter. Higher status levels reward creators with a higher percentage payout of the revenue earned.

Models who upload more frequently have seen a direct correlation between rank and earnings. The best way to increase your revenue is by uploading new content regularly, climbing to a higher Tier by meeting the upload criteria, and encouraging your fans to watch your videos.

What the Data Tells Us

There is a common misconception that we are demonetizing Models to save money. Rather, we are trying to reward Models who regularly upload new videos to Pornhub by paying them more. Here we break down the data to show how creators who consistently upload new videos have started making more money with the launch of Tiers.

Active Models with an assigned Tier and monetized accounts have benefited from increased overall views and monthly earnings. This is because these groups are uploading qualifying videos (7+ minutes).

Tiers launched on April 1 and in Q2 (April to June) there was an 11% increase in earnings compared to the previous quarter (January to March). In Q3 (July to September), we saw an increase of 8% in earnings over Q2. Views followed a similar trend, with an increase of 14% from April to June, and an increase of 4% from July to September.

So, what does this mean? Uploading more often, and uploading qualifying videos (7+ minutes), will increase your earnings and views!

Want to Upload More but Having Trouble Verifying Co-Performers?

If your Co-Performer has a verified Model account on Pornhub, you can use our new tagging feature, Collaborators, to speed up Co-Performer verification. If your Co-Performer hasn’t opted in yet, send them a quick message as a reminder!

Let’s break it down to help you better understand how you can stay on track to increase your earnings, rank, and views.

Where Can I Find My Tier?

Here is how you can find your Current Tier:

Note: if it has changed since the previous quarter, it will be shown here. This shows your current Tier.

The Quarterly Progress chart is also under the Tier Program tab in the Earnings section of your Model Dashboard. It will detail what you need to unlock to advance to the next Tier, which can be found in the chart below.

Understanding Your Current Tier and Quarterly Progress

The difference between your Current Tier and your Quarterly Progress (3 month period) is that the Current Tier section displays the Tier you have unlocked for the current and active quarter. Your Quarterly Progress section, on the other hand, tracks your progress for the upcoming quarter.

You have the entire quarter to work towards unlocking your Tier for the upcoming quarter. This section shows what you’ve achieved so far and what is needed to unlock the next level. At the start of a new quarter, all bars will be empty until you begin achieving what is required for the next Tier, similar to a video game.

For example, if you are aiming to unlock the Silver Tier for the upcoming quarter, this chart will show you what you need to unlock it. To unlock a Tier, you need to meet a minimum of 46 days in the rank bracket (for the Silver Tier, your rank must be between 1 and 10,000) listed under the Tier, and the number of qualifying (7+ minutes) videos it requires (for the Silver Tier, 1-6 videos). Once you meet those requirements and officially unlock a new Tier, the lock will turn into a green check. This will become your Tier in the next quarter.

If you do not see your Current Tier, it is likely because you have not uploaded any new videos for over six months, or your Model Rank is N/A. Your Tier will say “Removed for Inactivity.” To get back into a Tier, simply upload one qualifying video (7+ minutes) so your account can get monetized again. Once it is approved, your Tier will update automatically. If you have uploaded a qualifying video in the last six months and you are still demonetized, please reach out to the Model Success team.

Are Videos Under 7 Minutes Still Monetized?

Yes! As long as you upload one video that is over 7 minutes every 6 months, that will unlock ad revenue for all your videos, regardless of their length. What does this mean? If you have 30 second trailers or 2 minute clips and your account is monetized with an active Tier, you will earn ad revenue on all of those video views including the clips and trailers.

Note: You must be assigned a Tier to earn ad revenue for all videos.

If your goal is to collect and maintain steady ad revenue and not climb the ranks, you only need to upload one 7+ minute video every six months. This will unlock earnings for all your videos, regardless of their length.

How Do Scheduled Releases Work?

You can batch upload and schedule videos to be published at a later date, so your fans are regularly engaged. It's important to note that videos are counted based on the quarter they are uploaded, not when they are released. That means in order for your uploads to qualify, you must upload them within the current quarter. For example, if you upload and schedule 10 videos in January, they will count towards the first quarter, regardless of when you schedule them to be published.

What Changes Can Models Expect in the Future?

During our interviews with Models, we received some suggestions to make Tiers more rewarding. We are gathering data and running simulations to analyze what would happen if we implemented some of those suggestions. For example, if we were to increase the inactivity period that triggers demonetization and potentially adjust the video length requirements, what would that look like financially? As a business, we approach these decisions carefully and try to create mutually beneficial outcomes. It’s always been our goal to share in creator success. Stay tuned as we announce updates in the New Year.

To Summarize, The Best Practices You Can Follow Are:

  • Upload as many 7+ minute videos per quarter as you can to improve your rank and increase your earnings.
  • Regularly check your Quarterly Progress to ensure you are on track to climb to the next Tier.
  • Promote your uploads to your fans on social media to increase your rank.
  • Upload at least one 7+ minute video once every six months to stay monetized.
  • Use Collaborators, our new tagging feature, to streamline consent for other verified members of the Model Program and help your videos get published as quickly as possible.
