Every year on March 8th the world comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day. Countries all around the globe participate in recognizing the accomplishments and achievements of the women who make up our communities. It is also a time to take a critical look at the perceptions of womanhood, where it’s strengths and weaknesses are, how it is changing or has changed, and how these perceptions shape society around us.
This year’s theme is #EmbraceEquity. The terms equality and equity are often used interchangeably; however, they mean very different things. Equality is a term that means each individual or group of people is given the same resources and opportunities. This is regardless of gender, ethnicity, socio-economic qualities, and more. Equity is a term that recognizes each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. Together, they work to help people better understand how situations can differ between individuals and groups.
Yinyleon grabbed the attention of the world over and was the most viewed amateur model in both 2021 and 2022. Talk about a huge accomplishment! Today, we talked to Yiny about her incredible rise to fame and what International Women’s Day means to her.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you? How has your perception of what being a woman is all about changed over the years? Is equity more within reach?
I see International Women's Day as a day that raises awareness of the evolution and empowerment of women. It is also a day to look at how women have helped change the world in all areas of society. I think the world is full of extraordinary women, some are recognized for their merits and others are simply marginalized and discriminated against for thinking differently or for wanting equity. As Mary Shelley once said, I do not wish women to have power over men, but over themselves.
What’s your reaction to being the most viewed amateur model on Pornhub two years in a row? What do you accredit your success to?
Gratitude and happiness! I am grateful because thanks to my fans and viewers, I have been the model with the most views in the world! That I can stand out in an industry where there are so many beautiful women makes me very happy. It also helps motivate me to continue creating more captivating content!
Tell us something about you that most people are surprised to learn.
I think many will be surprised to learn that one of my children is already an adult.
How do you feel about the representation of Latinas in the industry and mainstream media? Do you think there’s room to improve?
The representation of Latinas is getting stronger with so many beautiful and empowered women in front of the camera and behind the camera. It gives me great satisfaction to represent Latina women in this industry! But in my opinion, there is always room to improve. Every day we learn something new and with that, we reinvent ourselves.
What advice do you have for women in their 20s who are just starting their lives and careers whether in the industry or not?
My advice is simple: be genuine. Choose something that you really want to do, but whatever you choose, make sure to do it with passion 💟
