It’s been almost four years since Mary Moody joined the industry, and she’s already graced the cover of Penthouse and was nominated for AVN and Pornhub awards. After meeting her in LA to work on a project together (stay tuned on social) and getting to know her a little better, we're not suprised this ambitious and witty beauty has made a name for herself in the industry so quickly.

How did you get started in the industry?
I made my debut March 2016! I jumped into camming at first and loved it. I still stream live every week so I can connect with and have fun with my fans. I had been camming for about 6 months and was really struggling to sell videos on other sites. Then, I discovered Pornhub’s Model Program and decided to put my entire video library up for free. I immediately got featured on the front page and started racking up views. It was so exciting, and I’ve been addicted to it ever since!
Tell us about your upbringing? Has it influenced your work as a performer and entrepreneur?
I’ve always been very outgoing and loved talking with new people, so it's an amazing outlet for someone like me.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself your fans would be surprised to learn.
Maybe not that surprising to learn but I love karaoke! I do sing along to my music all the time on cam too — I can’t help it. I think many of my followers would be surprised to learn how normal my life is. I may be a porn star, but I also just love hanging out with my dogs at the park and watching Netflix at home. I’m a lot like all my fans.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I wake up and tend to my dogs, grab a chai tea latte, and get my computer to check all my social media and sites that I work on. I try to make it to the gym, but often fail at that! I spend most of my day prepping for my cam shows or editing videos. I make sure to get out of the house often since it’s easy for me to become a workaholic and stay home all the time.
When you’re not working, what could we find you doing?
Spending time with friends, playing with my dogs, trying to keep my house tidy. Camming and making videos take up a surprisingly large amount of my time, so I don’t do much outside of working on projects for my fans or planning shows.
Are there any fetishes on your bucket list you’d like to try that you haven’t done yet?
Oh man, I don’t know! I know I’m a sex worker, but I’m simple and enjoy basic things. I am slowly exploring humiliation fetishes and degradation in videos I’m making. That’s a fun and new outlet for me.
Where do you look for inspiration for your videos?
Online — I am constantly admiring other models and creators and seeing how I can improve myself. I try to do things that truly bring me pleasure and enjoyment, so all my work is as authentic as possible. Real orgasms are what I’m after, so although I love exploring new ideas, I like to share things I know I’m being my true self with my fans.
How do you deal with criticism online?
Mute. Ignore. Move on. I simply don’t engage. I truly believe that those who try to hurt me online are doing it because they are unhappy and want to bring me down, too. They see me as a successful, beautiful person, and they want me to be less than I am. Now if it’s constructive criticism from a fellow model, I love to hear it. I’ve gotten great advice over the years from great women, and I will always appreciate that.
Why the name Mary Moody? How would you describe Mary Moody? How is she different/similar to you?
Mary and Moody are from my two absolute favorite books as a kid. Mary is a character in Bloody Jack who I always loved and identified with. Moody is from Harry Potter, and while I don’t love the character Mad-Eye Moody that much, the name just fit with Mary and sounded cool and I love Harry Potter.
As far as who is Mary Moody, she is me. I am the same in person as I am on webcam, and my friends can attest to that. I’m perhaps a bit louder on camera. When I am producing the content either on webcam or for my amateur videos, I am always me. When I perform in professional porn, I am following a script with a character, so that is when you get something different from me.
Has your perception of the community changed since you started?
Not really, I tend to wait a long time before forming my opinions on an entire community. When I first started, I didn’t have any industry friends since this job can be isolating if you just work at home all the time. As soon as I started branching out and going to events, I quickly met a lot of amazing performers. I’ve always had a positive experience with the industry. I think the porn industry is simply a reflection of society.
If you could go back in time to when you started, would you change anything?
When I started, I never thought I would go this far or be this successful. I knew from the first day that my goal was to be a top cam model, but I never thought I would explore beyond Chaturbate. I wish I had all the knowledge I have now; I simply did the best with what I had. There isn’t a specific thing I wish I could change; everything has brought me to where I am today. I do make a point to share as much info as I can with other models who are newer in their careers in the hopes some of it will help them excel faster than I did.
How do you use social media to promote your work?
I am simply addicted to Twitter! I love connecting with my fans and when I’m not live on cam chatting with them, I do that through Twitter. I share my life and post pictures I think people will like. I don’t have any special strategy, I’m just myself.
How do you use the features on Modelhub and Pornhub to your advantage? How do you decide what to sell and what to post for free?
I have a few different types of content; I record my webcam shows and upload that to my Pornhub for free. As for the content I create with other models, I usually sell those videos on Modelhub. Fetish content also goes up for sale. Videos that have mass appeal are usually free since those will get more views than a video with a specific fetish.
What kind of supportive advice could you give to new models?
Treat this like a job and work toward your goals. Don’t get too distracted by everything else going on around you and in this industry. Always reach for more and don’t settle because you think it’s not possible to earn more. Find good friends you can trust and connect with so you don’t get lonely.
Do you have a favorite video? If so, why?
I love so many of my videos and for different reasons. My older content is not the highest production quality, but it is so raw and real. My new content is getting more creative and that’s so fun for me. Every new video I make is my favorite until I make another new favorite!
What has been your biggest success and biggest struggle thus far?
Early on, Penthouse scooped me up from Twitter and flew me to LA to be on the cover of the November 2016 issue. At the time, I had no idea what a big deal that was, but looking back, I feel so lucky to have had that happen for me. I’m also extremely proud and feel so grateful that I have been able to help other models increase their earnings. It’s much more under the radar than my Penthouse shoot, but I feel so happy when I connect with a model and can help them further their career.
If I’m being honest, I truly haven’t had that many struggles. However, during the first year I was camming, I decided to change the way I was living. I got sober, I went through tons of therapy, I got treated for my depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Going through that while still entertaining thousands live on cam was a challenge. I’m forever grateful that I was able to slow down my work and still support myself through that. Since I’ve been working on keeping a balanced life, my career has only gotten stronger.
You were a Penthouse Pet of the Month and was nominated for numerous awards in the industry, what do you accredit your success to?
I did absolutely nothing to earn that Penthouse cover. Their photographer found me on Twitter where I would post little Snapchat videos every day. I had only been camming for about 6 months, and it was a complete accident. As for the Pornhub nominations, I also have no clue how I got those! My very first professional lesbian porn scene was nominated for best girl-girl at the AVN Awards and I’m just over the moon to have even been considered.
The secret to my success is that I just show up for work every day and try my best. I think a lot of success is based on luck, but you must be present and ready to catch that luck when it comes your way. I also always try to stay grateful for what I have and for my life; I think having a happy and positive attitude helps me as well.
