Black Friday may be around the corner, but it’s got nothing on Singles Day. While it may have originated in China, thanks to Singles Day, November 11 is now the biggest online and offline shopping day in the world.
So if you’d like to join in on the fun and make the most out of the event by launching your own campaign, we asked Pornhub Model June Liu to help explain the history and cultural significance behind Singles Day.
Singles Day: A Modern Event by June Liu
The date, November 11th (11/11), was chosen because the number "1" resembles an individual who is alone.
November 11, 11/11, consists of four "ones," representing four singles. Ever since it started, people made this day more and more popular by using social media to diffuse their jokes and wishes to single people in their circle. Singles are happy to use this day as a reason to get together and celebrate their single lives.
The Singles Day festival is also a proper opportunity to release the pressure coming from older family members, to have fun, and feel proud of themselves no matter their relationship status.
Big companies like Alibaba is also one of the biggest advocates of this event. Being single means you have more energy and money to treat yourself well, and Alibaba, the owner of the biggest Chinese online shopping platform, gives people the chance to treat themselves well by offering a huge discount on their products. Last year on Singles Day, Alibaba made more than $30 billion USD in sales and this number is expected to increase year by year.
As for Pornhub Models, I have one piece of advice: Take advantage of this day and offer special discounts and broadcast special live shows to your fans because watchers will be in the mood to spend more on you.
