In our sixth breakdown of the Top 10 Tips to be Successful in the Model Program, we get into using effective and accurate metadata to optimize content discovery.
According to Wikipedia, metadata literally means data about data. For the purposes of content on Pornhub, we define metadata as information that describes and provides context for video titles, tags, categories, descriptions, and more. When viewers search for specific terms, the metadata will help determine if it comes up in their search results. The same applies for categories. If your metadata indicates your video is lesbian content, it will show up in the Lesbian category page.
Search engines and our viewers rely on metadata for accuracy and finding content that meets their interests. Using accurate and effective video metadata makes it easier for viewers to discover your content because most times, they enter terms or Model names in our search bar. Search engine optimization (SEO) is vital to content discovery. Without it, your videos will not appear in the proper search results. That is why metadata plays an important role in directing traffic to your videos and helps your overall content strategy.
Video Titles
Your video title and thumbnail are the first thing viewers see when deciding what to click on. Choosing a relevant title informs your viewers what they are about to watch.
When uploading a video, your title should incorporate accurate metadata like performer stage names (yours and your Co-Performers), trending search terms, and concise descriptions. This is to help viewers find your content easily based on their interests when searched. Do not use names or terms that are inaccurate. This is considered clickbait and will lead to a poor user experience and downvotes on your content.
It is important to describe your scene especially if it contains kinks or niches. For example, if you are wearing latex or fishnet stockings in your BSDM threesome squirting scene, be sure to use all those descriptive words to optimize search results.
Use metadata to highlight who is in the scene and what actions occur. Including these details helps viewers build anticipation. Let’s look at these two examples below. In the first video title, Diana Rider includes who is featured in the scene (Diana Rider and Sweetie Fox) and what action items occur (masturbate with dildos). This effective description allows the viewer to know what to expect if they click the video.
In this Alex Adams video title, performer stage names are mentioned (Alex Adams and Indica Flower) and the action items (tantric nude massage). Viewers who search for Indica Flower or any of these terms, “tantric,” “nude” or “massage” will easily find this video based on its accurate and effective use of metadata in the video title.
Hot Tip: Notice how each of these video titles include the performers’ stage names? Do that! Name dropping has never been more important!
Translated Titles
For non-English titles, consider the title translation option to help English speaking countries discover your content. With Tiers, this can help you tap into additional markets and viewers, and as a result potentially increase your earnings. You can find more details on translating video titles in Tip 4.
Video Tags
When uploading new videos, you can leverage tags for additional reach. Think of them like hashtags used on social media to reach audiences searching for specific content.
You will need to add at least 2 tags when uploading a new video. You can add up to 16 tags so choose them wisely! You can find some tag suggestions below:
- Positions (cowgirl, missionary, POV)
- Actions (blowjob, squirting, creampie)
- Attributes (big tits, big dick, fat ass, petite)
- Settings (shower, office, car, kitchen)
- Themes (cosplay, homemade, parody)
- Objects (sex toys, handcuffs)
Do not add your stage name as a tag if it is already included in your video title. The metadata will already read your title and optimize it for SEO. With a limited number of tags, you do not want to waste them.
Video Categories
Now that tags have been added, let’s move onto video categories! You may choose a maximum of 7 categories from the list of pre-determined options.
Categories can range from the actions performed in the video to the performer’s attributes.
This will help file your video under the appropriate Category pages and make it easier for viewers searching for specific actions, body types, and more.
When uploading content to PornhubGay, the category options to select from are different and tailored for this audience as shown below:
Note: All model videos will receive the Verified Model (Professional Models) or the Verified Amateur (Amateur Models) category after uploading. If you are an Exclusive Model, your video will also receive the Exclusive category automatically.
Accurately categorizing your videos is very important because it affects ratings and views. Selecting categories that do not apply to your video has a negative impact. It misleads viewers which ultimately leads to low ratings and a poor user experience. Downvotes for example, can affect views and your video's chance of getting featured on the homepage. That is no bueno!
Trending Search Terms
Check out what is currently trending on Pornhub to inform and guide content creation strategies. These are based on the most popular search terms and often tied to viral videos and performers. Not only will these give you inspiration, but consider using them where appropriate for future tags, categories and titles to reach a wider audience and potentially grow your fan base. For example, if you see “mature milf” trending, you may want to incorporate a MILF storyline into your next video.
Video Orientation
Viewers looking for straight content will look on Pornhub and viewers looking for gay content will look on PornhubGay. When entering metadata, ensure you select the proper video orientation so your content will surface in the correct location for the right audience. This will allow viewers who are browsing for videos to discover your content easier and increase your viewership.
For your content to surface on Pornhub, select Straight, Lesbian, Bisexual Male, or Transgender. For your content to surface on PornhubGay, select Gay.
Note: We are not asking for your sexual orientation and/or preferences in this field! It’s solely to help us figure out where to host your videos.
Language Spoken in Video
Depending on your location, you will want your video to surface to the right markets. Select one of the available options to note which language is spoken in your video. Like choosing a video orientation, entering the spoken language will allow our search engines to direct your videos to audiences with the same preferences.
What Not to Do
It is important you do not use clickbait. The title, thumbnail, tags and categories must accurately reflect what is shown in the video. If you choose Blowjob as a category, your video must feature a blowjob. Otherwise, your viewers will have a poor user experience and likely downvote your video. Repeated abuse can result in a loss of views and earnings.
Avoid titling your video with terms that contradict each other (ex: “stepdaughter MILF” or “busty small tits”).
